Cookie Information
What is a cookie?
Cookies are small text files stored on a user's computer by their web browser, designed to store basic information (such as visitor preferences)
How are they used?
DC Storm Cookies are used by our clients to identify how users interact with their site, so that they can see things like the most popular pages and the journey that users take though their site.
First Party cookies – These cookies are set by the domain of the website that you are visiting.
Third Party cookies – These cookies are set by a domain different to the one of the website that you are visiting. DC Storm only use these when a client owns more than one website and wishes to see how users move between these, to track impressions and when a client is using a Storm Lite – which doesn’t use Javascript.
Impressions
Cookies are also created to identify when a user has viewed an advert for a DC Storm client on an external site.
The cookie contains a unique identifier and nothing else. If you subsequently visit their website, then we link that cookie (and hence the advert) to your visit, but if you never visit the website, the cookie is meaningless and will expire automatically, 90 days after you last saw one of the adverts.
Cross Domain tracking
Some DC Storm clients own more than one domain, or website, and wish to see how users move between these. In this instance a 3rd Party cookie will be created.
Can I opt out of cookies?
Yes. You can set your browser to reject cookies or you can delete them yourself. For full information on how to delete cookies please visit aboutcookies.org. You can also adjust your browser settings to your preferred level of protection.
When opting out of a specific client’s tracking an opt-out flag will be set on each of the tracking domains, and existing cookies will be cleared.
Please Bear in mind that DC Storm use a cookie to set this flag and tracking will only be disabled whilst the opt out cookie still exists. This means that if you clear your cookies then you will have to click on the opt out link again.
